I pretended playing my toy guitar along with videos on MTV since I was a kid and I have dreamed of having my tunes heard on the radio. But even if you're a real good band, getting air time can be pretty difficult.

The band that I formed five years ago has been lucky enough to be played on some local stations. Well, luck is not the right word. We did work real hard to meet the right people who got us on air. You can call that real challenge.

New bands face an uphill climb because radio stations often do not put unknowns into their rotation. Usually those bands that you hear on the radio are not essentially the most talented. Often, they are the ones with the most financial backing and marketing efforts.

The Beatles Second Record: With The Beatles (1963)

The Beatles second UK LP (With The Beatles) is not not the best Beatles studio album, in fact it's probably their least good non Yellow Submarine album. But that is not to imply I don't thoroughly enjoy hearing this early album in it's new remastered form nor is it to say that this album doesn't have any fine tracks on it because that is definitely not the case.

I do think that when looking at only the 8 original songs on the album, it is probably the least good collection of original songs the band ever put out on an album (the underrated Beatles For Sale has a far better collection of eight originals in my opinion) on the other hand, the covers on With The Beatles are good (better than the six covers on Beatles For Sale, which was their fourth album.)

My most favorite originals to listen to on the With The Beatles Remastered CDs (mono or stereo) are the first three tracks: "It Won't Be Long," "All I've Got To Do," and "All My Loving." Particularly, I have been loving track number two, "All I've Got To Do" in the remastered mono.

Another original song that has actually been making an impression on me is song #9, "Hold Me Tight." McCartney wrote and sang lead on this one and he's dismissed it as being an album filler. And while the song is far from Paul's best work, I do think it has a certain charm.

Among the cover songs I think "Till There Was You" is my favorite. It is an extremely sickly sweet ballad but I think in some strange way it works because of that. The record's final track, "Money" is an excellent way to end the album. When I listen close to the remastered mono version I realize that the song rocks much harder than I ever realized.

For most of the CDs I do prefer the stereo versions(especially with the later albums which are my favorite, anyway) when it comes 2009 Beatles box sets but I do think that this album sounds a bit better in mono.
